Big changes are coming to U.S. 69 Highway as construction begins on 69Express. The project, which will cost $572 million, will convert the median between U.S. 69 Highway into two additional “express lanes” to help ease congestion.”It’s all about congestion management,” explained 69Express Project Director, Steve Rockers. “When you drive out there the corridor, the traffic out there every morning — it’s congested and so we have a lot of congestion issues. Our drive times are slower and we have a lot of accidents out there too, so were addressing all those, replacing the pavement adding on capacity so it will be or reliable.”The 69Express lanes will run from 103rd St. to 151st St. with a middle entry/exit point at Blue Valley Parkway. However it will cost drivers who use those lanes since they will be tolled. The cost ranges from 30 cents to $1.75 based off how long you use the Express lanes and at what time.”Either get a KTAG, that’s the preferred way because that’s the cheaper way or they will also be able to read your license plates, said Rockers. “There wont be any toll booths, it’s all about express reliability along the corridor. It’s going to be a little painful the next few years during construction but when it’s all done its going to be nice safe wide open highway.” Learn more about the project here.
