There’s a giant new mural of former President Truman in downtown independence this week.Nationally known graffiti artist, ARCY, was commissioned for the project. When complete, the piece will resemble a picture of Truman and his famous quote “The Buck Stops Here”.It’s being painted on top of the old bank building near the corner of Maple and Liberty in Independence square. The bank is where Truman once served as a manager, long before he was president.“Truman really inspired people and I hope this mural is inspiring people and maybe them seeing what I’m doing, doing what I love can inspire them to do what they love, it’s just pushing that positive energy,” ARCY said. ARCY’s trademark is placing hidden Mickey Mouse heads in his work. He adds the hidden images because children enjoy finding them. However with Walt Disney’s ties to the area, the Easter egg makes even more sense than usual. He says this project will have one as well. The artist’s clients have included the likes of the Smithsonian Institution, Major League Baseball, and the National Park Service. The art should be completed and ready for public viewing on Friday.
