City Board candidate caught in crossfire, shot in leg
Arkansas News Headlines

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s Joseph Flaherty reported today on the shooting Saturday of Ward 1 city director candidate Loretta Hendrix, daughter of late Director Erma Hendrix.

Hendrix was driving home from a memorial service Saturday night with her sister when gunshots struck the car she was driving near 15th and Chester or State Street. Hendrix was struck in the left leg. Hendrix, 73, received first aid from police and EMS before transfer to University Hospital, where she underwent surgery Sunday. She told Flaherty she expected to be released from the hospital today.

Gunshots reportedly hit two homes on 15th Street around the time Hendrix was shot. She told Flaherty she’d never experienced anything like this before in her neighborhood, though there has been an increase in gunshots in recent months.

Hendrix has announced for the seat her mother held. The current Ward One director, Virgil Miller, has said he’ll seek to return to the seat.

Events continue to keep violent crime in Little Rock on the front burner in city political races this year.
