Q: Who made the nominating speech that gave Kevin McCarthy the U.S. House speaker’s chair (albeit devoid of power and testicles) on the 15th ballot?
Republican U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman of Arkansas. Some played Westerman’s role straight, such as Republican cable commentator Alice Stewart. Many others on Twitter remembered where Westerman was two years ago yesterday, as Trump-inspired insurrectionists defiled that very space while trying to upend democracy.

A single Republican, none from Arkansas, paid tribute yesterday to the police who valiantly tried to defend the Capitol from the mob. Back the Blue? Not Bruce Westerman, French Hill, Rick Crawford (Seditionist, Jonesboro), Steve Womack, Tom Cotton or John Boozman. Their votes in the coming chaos intended by the insurrectionists who held McCarthy’s election hostage to a list of as-yet unpublished concessions will be a measure of their devotion to a functioning government.
