The Kansas Melting Pot Theatre at the ‘Just Off Broadway’ Theatre in Penn Valley Park was just starting to bounce back after COVID-19.But theatre founder Harvey Williams said they’re now running into another problem.”It’s a bad situation all around,” Williams said. Groups of people coming and going; leaving behind trash, syringes and other items.He also said some people have been doing inappropriate activities in public.”One of our patrons driving up this way, observes some people having some sexual relations,” Williams said. He says at night, it’s pitch black under the bridge and sometimes he sees 10 people or more.”My fear now is we’ll get the attention we need to get to get it taken care of, but it’s gonna be after there is a body lying somewhere or someone gets hurt,” Williams said. At times, Williams says security is on the property and the KCMO Parks Department have been helpful.But he wants more done like more lighting or clearing some of the construction equipment, or whatever it takes to make everyone feel safe and welcomed.”It’s a little bit conflicting because you’re not trying to be vindictive and saw get them out of here, you don’t know their situation,” Williams said. We reached out to the city for comment.A spokesperson for the housing department told us they’re working on getting more information on the site.
