House nixes proposal for roll call vote on speaker as session winds down

Rep. Gayla McKenzie tried this morning to pull from committee her proposal, HR 1022, to change House rules to require a roll call vote on the election following adjournment for a Speaker-designate for the next session of the legislature.

She said constituents deserved to know how representatives voted on House leadership.

Her proposal mustered little support on the floor today.

Needing 67 votes, the proposal drew only 24.

The House was expected to shortly approve one version of the revenue stabilization act, moving the fiscal session toward a potential conclusion on Tuesday. The Senate likewise wrapped up business except approval some House bills tomorrow morning.
