In March we reported about a truck crashing into Hubcap Burger Company after a car accident on Cantrell Road. Hubcap, located in the former Arkansas Burger Company building at 7410 Cantrell Road, was closed at the time of the accident, just before 5 p.m. on March 23. No one was hurt. The driver of the truck was not at fault, and the woman who struck his vehicle was ticketed after the accident, according to Hubcap’s March Facebook announcement. The accident left a truck-sized hole in the building, completely destroying owner Erin Griffin’s office.

Griffin said the driver at fault in the accident had no insurance, and the insurance company of the owner of the truck that crashed into the building denied the claim, stating he was a victim. The process took weeks, Griffin said.

“It took so long for adjusters to come out, and then even longer for bids to be created by the adjusters and then even longer for us to find out that the claim was denied,” she said. “Apparently insurance adjusters are stretched really really thin right now.”

Griffin, who also owns Cotham’s in the City at 1401 W. 3rd St., said that it took so much time that some of her employees were forced to find other jobs.

“My husband was like, ‘Do we really want two restaurants that we can barely staff?’ Because it’s hard and I was like, ‘No, I don’t.’ My landlord was gracious enough to let me out of my lease three years early.”

Shortly before the truck crashed into the building, Hubcap posted about someone hitting the exterior part of its vent fan, just outside the drive-thru.

“If it could go wrong it went wrong in that location in a very small amount of time,” Griffin said. “Someone else will be happy there hopefully one of these days.”
