In the wake of the Roe v. Wade decision’s overturning by the U.S. Supreme Court today, Arkansas Times staff photographer Brian Chilson was onsite at the Little Rock Family Planning Clinic this morning to capture the mood between clinic escorts and protestors, one of whom patrolled the parking lot entrance in an “I Love My Wife” T-shirt and attempted to photograph escorts and patients as they entered the clinic. In an apparent attempt to obfuscate his mission, he sported the same sort of rainbow umbrella the clinic escorts carry.

Arkansas lawmakers passed a trigger law in 2019 to ban abortion in the state in the event of Roe being overturned, but Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has to sign off first. She has a media event planned for 2 p.m. today, which will probably mark the hard stop to abortion access in Arkansas for any reason except to save the life of the mother.

An LRPD Sky Camera was placed across from the lot on May 27 and, Karen Musick of Arkansas Abortion Support Network told us, temporarily softened the actions of anti-abortion protestors. The camera has since been removed and was not there this morning.

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge will certify the end of legal (legal is the key word here) abortions in Arkansas today at 2 p.m.

Rally tonight at the state Capitol.
