Dr. Phil CBS
Danielle says she hates the feeling of food in her stomach. The 34-year-old, living with severe anorexia and bulimia since she was a teenager, weighs just 68 lbs. In addition to chronic health problems, Danielle says her life has become “very anti-social” because she experiences overwhelming anxiety over anything relating to food or drink. She also says she is embarrassed by her appearance. “I know I don’t look good, and I don’t want to be around people,” says Danielle. “The people that I have in my life don’t deserve that. They deserve a better quality person than I am right now.” Danielle’s mother, Renee, says it’s painful to see how others – especially strangers – treat her daughter, but right now, their focus is on trying to keep her heart beating. “That’s our goal – to save her life.” Renee says Danielle has been in and out of hospitals and treatment centers for the past 20 years.
