TU ranked among top 100 national universities for 12 straight years

For a dozen years now, U.S. News & World Report has ranked The University of Tulsa among the top 100 national universities in the country.

According to the magazine’s 2015 list of Best Colleges, TU tied with six other research universities for No. 88. The Sept. 10 announcement also means TU is again the highest ranked college in Oklahoma and the only one in the top 100 statewide.

“We are pleased to see continuing improvements in key metrics,” said TU President Steadman Upham. “These advancements underscore our unwavering commitment to providing a comprehensive academic experience that prepares our graduates for rewarding careers and meaningful lives.”

In its 2015 report, U.S. News examined 280 national universities, a classification developed by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Since last year, TU has improved in several important criteria, including freshmen retention rate, graduation rate and student selectivity.

TU’s personal learning environment tradition also continues, as just 2 percent of classes contain 50 or more students. Only four top 100 doctoral universities reported a lower percentage in this category.

Internationalization has been a recent focus for TU, which was counted among the Best Colleges for what U.S. News called the Foreign Student Factor. The university’s top academic programs draw students from more than 70 countries to Tulsa, giving them a positive experience with an American institution and bringing a wealth of cultural learning exchanges to its campus.
